Year 4 Carey Camp, Wareham (2 days) - Thursday 5th - Friday 6th May 2016

On Thursday 5th May, Year 4, Miss Knight, Mrs Warwick-Price and Mrs Miller set off for Carey Camp in Wareham. Soon after we arrived, all the children were given a tour of the site and were told how to set up their camping area. This took quite some time, but eventually everyone was sorted and we could enjoy our lunch in the sunshine.

After lunch, activities began. The children were split into group and found themselves shooting arrows, solving tricky problems or negotiating low ropes. These activities were thoroughly enjoyed and taught the children how to work as a team and support and encourage each other.

Later in the evening, it was time for the camp fire. William Barnes children showed off their singing voices and taught another visiting school, Pamphill, a few traditional camping songs!

Tired and weary, the children were soon off to bed and found themselves falling asleep rather quickly. Early the next morning tent equipment had to be returned to the store and bags packed.

Most of the children were really looking forward to the final activity, shelter building. In groups of four, the children built shelters in the woods, using only a few key pieces of equipment plus what they could find in the natural surroundings. The shelters were sufficient and sturdy, so we were able to eat our lunch in them, before departing to arrive back at William Barnes School.  Carey Camp 2016 was a brilliant residential and enjoyed by all.
