We hope that you have all had a good Easter and are ready for a very busy and important term for our Year 2 children.
Our topic for this half term will be:
Key Stage 1 Assessments
This term is very important as it is the children’s final term in Key Stage 1. As a school we are required to undertake formal Key Stage 1 Assessments / Tests (SATs). All year there has been on-going assessment of your child in Reading, Writing, Maths and Science but during the month of May the classes will be completing ‘special work’ in these areas which will help us to make final decisions on how each child is performing against Age Related Expectations.
As parents we ask you not to worry about these assessments. Our approach in school is low key and often the children are not even aware that they are even completing their ‘special work’. All we do ask is that you continue to help with their normal homework, ensure they are in school every day, especially during May and bring them to school well rested and having had a good breakfast as this will support and aid their concentration whilst in school.
Please ensure your child’s P.E kit is in school every day and that it is clearly named.
Please note: both of the P.E sessions are now outdoors. Please make sure your child has appropriate kit.
Homework – helping your child.
Reading - Your child will continue to bring home a reading book each evening which they are expected to read to an adult at least 5 times per week. Please can we ask you to fill in the appropriate part when your child has read and support them to correctly complete the reading activity sheet which is on the reverse.
Mathletics - Your child has a password that gives them access to ‘Mathletics’ on the internet, a great way to learn as well as being good fun. Please encourage your child to log on each week and aim to earn a certificate which will be given out and celebrated in school.
