Year 4 Autumn Term Letter September 2017

Year 4 Roman Day 2017

Year 4 Roman Day

As I am sure some of you have heard the Year 4 topic this half term has been ‘The Romans’. Therefore on Monday 27th November Year 4 hosted a Roman Day. The day began with the children and adults arriving in their Romans regalia. During the morning, the children learnt how to make brooches, laurel wreaths and bullas.

Part way through the morning, the children took a break in the triclinium (word for Roman dining room) to have a Roman feast. After lunch three visitors, called Claire, Joanna and Penny-Jane from Shaftesbury Museum arrived to spend the afternoon with the class. Using artifacts and replica objects they talked about how we find out about the past using archaeology. The day was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone and thanks to all those who made the day a great success. HD

Year 4 Autumn Term Letter 2016

5th September 2016

Dear Parents/Carers,

Welcome to Year 4. I hope you all had a fantastic break and are feeling refreshed ready for a long and busy term ahead! As I’m sure most of you know I got married in August so instead of Miss Knight I’ll now be known as Mrs Dyke!!

Morning Routine:

The children need to line up, with their belongings, when the bell rings, and wait for myself or one of the Year 4 team to collect them outside the mobile on the main playground.  Any coats, bags and PE kits are to be hung on their named peg in the cloakroom when they enter after the bell rings. Please resist the temptation to enter the mobile or allow children to come in before the bell unless you need to speak to a member of staff.  If it happens to rain in the morning the hall will be open for you to use from 8:30am to stay dry and we will collect the children from the hall as the bell rings.  Book bags should be brought to school daily with reading journals and will be kept in their named drawer.  Healthy snacks (preferably fruit) and water bottles will be kept in trays in the classroom.  Water only is allowed in the classroom, children may bring squash for their packed lunch, but this will stay in the hall with their lunch box.

On Thursday 5th May, Year 4, Miss Knight, Mrs Warwick-Price and Mrs Miller set off for Carey Camp in Wareham. Soon after we arrived, all the children were given a tour of the site and were told how to set up their camping area. This took quite some time, but eventually everyone was sorted and we could enjoy our lunch in the sunshine.
